The northern lights (aurora borealis) are a colorful glow that can be seen in the night sky usually in a polar region.

I would like to stay in an underwater hotel because I love sea life. The fish are always colorful and unique. I would find the sea grass and coral very relaxing.
If I were lucky enough to go to this hotel, I would want to swim with all of the animals outside my room.
The reason why I wouldn’t like to stay in an igloo is because I might be cold and the northern lights might not be as peaceful as sea life would be to me.
Nicely done, Taylor! Can you give a few more details behind your reasoning? For example, what do you think about having all that glass around you and sharks swimming right above you? What kinds of things do you think you would see? Would you be scared at night? Some more insights along these lines. (You don’t have to answer to these questions, but you get the idea.)
Just reply to yourself to add more comments.
I think that seeing the fish swimming would be cool too. I also would love to swim with them too.
Also, I think it would be a little scary having sharks swim around me at night. I never really like sharks or thing that could hurt me in the ocean, so that would be interesting to see how I would do with them.
I don’t know even know if my I pad or phone will work under the water that deep.
That’s good thinking Taylor! I don’t thing you will get wifi down that deep. I also don’t think you can get wifi in an igloo. Nice job!
If I got to spend either a week in an underwater hotel looking at fish, or an igloo gazing at the Northern Lights, I would choose to stay in an igloo. I would choose this because the Northern Lights are a rare thing to see, and you can go to an aquarium whenever you choose to. I am really interested in the Northern Lights, and I have never seen them before. I would also love to play in the snow!
I wouldn’t want to stay in an underwater hotel because I’m scared to go deep underwater, and I get claustrophobic very easily. I do think it would be cool to be looking out your window and to see schools of fish all around you. My choice would also depend on how long I am going to be staying. If I was only staying for 1 or 2 days then I might choose the underwater hotel but, if I was staying for a week or two then I would choose the igloo.
Great start, Meredith! A few more details, though. Why are you interested in the northern lights? What do you like to do in the snow? What do you think the igloo has inside? These types of questions. Click the reply link under your name to add more text.
I imagine that inside an igloo there would be tools for ice fishing, clothing and bedding made of animal furs, and cooking tools. Outside I would like to learn to dogsled, ice fish, or build an igloo! It would be fun to listen to the myths and legends of the Northern Lights from the Eskimos. I am also interested in them for their colors and how they’re related to astronomy.
Good job, Meredith. See the difference a few more details make? Gives the reader more info.
Very nice Meredith!
If I had the choice of living in an underwater hotel, or an igloo in the North Pole I would stay in an igloo. Being a Floridan, being anywhere with snow is amusing. In the North Pole you can do many things like dog sledding, hiking, or snow ball fights. None of those things can be done in Florida. I have also never seen the Northern Lights and have heard it is very beautiful to see the glowing light change color in the sky. Having a room not connected to other guest is also a bonus.
I would not want to go to an under water hotel for a few reasons. The first being a safety concern. I am afraid that the glass would crack and everyone would panic to get to the exit. The idea of being in the hotel all day seems boring to me even though you can dive. Sleeping might be a problem because I go to bed early and it may be bright out. I would still enjoy going to an under water hotel but I would prefer to be in an igloo.
What do you think it looks like inside the igloo? Would you get cold? Any other details? Reagan, reply to yourself to add more details to your comment. Great start!
I love it! You did a really nice job saying why you like snow!
What a nice comment, Taylor!
If I had the chance to stay in an underwater hotel, I would take it immediately. An igloo on the other hand, I’d have to think about. I think it would be amazing to look outside my window and see dolphins and go exploring in the ocean. I’ve always wanted to go scuba diving, so I think it would be very convenient to already be underwater. I love sea creatures, swimming and boating, so an underwater hotel would be a great match for me. The only thing that I wonder is how you would get in and out of the hotel. I would imagine that they have some type of submarine to help.
I love snow just as much as I like water, but I wouldn’t be as excited if I was told that I was staying in an igloo instead of an underwater hotel. I think it would be cool to stay in an igloo and see the northern lights, but I think that it wouldn’t be as fun to walk outside into the freezing cold. Even though I’d choose to stay in an underwater hotel, I would still be extremely excited if I could stay in an igloo.
Lots of info, Jordan! Would you feel claustrophobic at all, do you think? How would you feel about sharks swimming above you while you slept?

If I could stay in an underwater hotel or an igloo, I would stay in an igloo. I love the cold weather and the snow, but in Florida, the only place to find cold weather is in an ice skating rink. Staying in an igloo would be a great opportunity to see what life is like for eskimos. For example, I would want to learn how they survive in the cold or what they do for fun or activities. Also, it would be amazing to see the Northern Lights, since I have heard and read they are beautiful. One day, I would love to travel to the North Pole or South Pole and stay in an igloo to see them.
I would rather not stay in an underwater hotel because, I have a fear of sharks, jellyfish, and manta rays. I would stay in an underwater hotel, but I would feel like the fish or divers are watching me through the glass. I would also be nervous about the glass cracking or a leak. Maybe in the future I would be willing to stay in an underwater hotel that is highly protective of breaking.
What do you think the igloo looks like inside? Cozy and warm? I never thought about the divers looking through the glass! Use the reply link under your name or mine to add some more thoughts. You raise some good questions!
Inside the igloo there must be tons of large heavy blankets and sheets, and maybe a heater. I imagine there being very few furniture materials. With a lot of blankets, tons of heavy jackets, and a heat source it could be a very fun trip!
Inside the igloo there must be a large heater! I like being cold but when I go inside I expect it to be warm. I imagine the room has materials to go hiking and a large bed with thick sheets. I don’t get cold as long as I am wearing enough jackets, but I am still from Florida!
Forgot to reply to myself. Sorry.
I would rather stay in the underwater hotel then the igloo because I would love to look at all the crazy, and unique fish, and also because I love to swim and go snorkeling. I think it would be even more fun to be sleeping and then waking up to beautiful fish swimming around you, but I would wonder how you would get to the hotel. As much as I would love to stay in an igloo I think it would be to cold for me I don’t like the cold, but the northern lights would be beautiful to see.
I love to snorkle too.:)
What would be one way people could get to the underwater hotel?
I think that I would prefer staying in an underwater hotel. I would not be very comfortable in the snow, especially for a week! I have never seen snow so I don’t think I would like it nearly as much. At night I would love to look at the fish as I fall asleep. I think my whole family would really enjoy this trip because my sister is obsessed with sharks for whatever reason, my dad loves to be outside and in the wild and my mom would probably find it easier to get her work done.
After reading Jordan’s post and when she said “I’ve always wanted to go scuba diving, so I think it would be very convenient to already be underwater.” I remembered that i went snorkeling this summer and saw lots of wonderful fish! That makes me want to go to the underwater hotel even more!
About Hanna’s post: I doubt that the glass would break because they would make it very strong knowing that people would be in there. (See my point?) That was a very good thought though!
Reagan had a good point saying… “Being a Floridan, being anywhere with snow is amusing” Very true, very true, but my opinion is, being a Floridian I am not used to snow so I would be more happy in an environment more like home. Reagan and my experiences with snow are very different though. Reagan’s family goes skiing and my sister and I have never seen snow.
I love that you reference some classmates’ comments, Campbell, and you include some personal thoughts! Nicely done!
Can you go back and find that pesky lower case “i” ?
Campbell, fantastic job!
If I could spend a week in one of the two locations I would prefer to stay in an underwater hotel for a week. I love the ocean and it would be amazing to be able to see the ocean life in there natural habitat instead of in an aquarium or washed up on the beach. The sound of the beach is soothing and I am thinking of takeing on a career as a Marine biologist. I also am interested in ocean mammals like dolphins, seals, otters, and whales.
When I can’t fall asleep I listen to the sound of waves on my phone. The ocean hotel is glass and so I could see everything around me. All of the ocean around me would be staring at me. I love the ocean and it would be an amazing experience for me
I used to live in Washington state so I have seen the northern lights many times. I don’t think I would waste the opportunity to go into an underwater hotel for the northern lights.
Great job Hailey. I would do the same thing
With your interest in marine animals, Hailey, you will make a great marine biologist! Do you think your room would sway with the water? Any more details?
If I could spend one week in either an igloo hotel, or an underwater hotel, I would choose the underwater hotel for many reasons. The first reason is that I don’t think polar bears take kindly to random strangers in dome shaped tents. I would be scared out of my mind, if a polar bear came near me. Another reason is that it would be unbearably cold in an igloo hotel, and I doubt they have heaters. Not to mention that the igloos look cramped and tiny. Though I may enjoy the Northern Lights, it wouldn’t make up for all the faults in staying in an igloo hotel.
I also enjoy the ocean. The sea creatures are beautiful and entertaining to look at. Also when you’re really deep, the fish are usually bright neon colors, which I would find really cool. Also I wouldn’t be scared if any dangerous fish swam up to me, because I’m protected by what’s probably very strong glass. The only thing I wouldn’t like is the air pressure, which hopefully they would find a way to ease. Overall, an underwater hotel sounds like my kind of trip.
Very good reasons not to stay in the igloo Rina, and very descriptive too! Nice Job!
Super reply, Rina! Very detailed with lots of interesting opinions.
I would definitely stay in an underwater hotel because at night I would be able to watch the fish swim around my head. I would not be afraid if there was a shark swimming around in the water because I know that I am safe inside. I would not like it because people who are swimming above me could see in. I would like staying in an underwater hotel because I really like fish and it would be very colorful on the outside.
I would not like to stay in an igloo because I bet it would be very cold and I would be afriad that a polar bear might jump on me while I am sleeping. I would wonder what the food would be like there. Would it be frozen? Would it taste good? Would you eat the same thing every night? I am definitely going to look up these answers!!!
Great questions, Senna! What could you do to prevent people from seeing into your room, I wonder?
Thanks!
I would hang towels on the glass.
According to the picture, that would take a lot of towels!!
I would love to spend a week in an under water hotel because you can see so much more than the norther light like fish, sharks, stingray, coral reef, and maybe even a eel! Another thing is if you were resting in bed an you look up you would see all these cool fish. Their is one thing that I would regret and that is people can see into your room which would be creepy. The last thing is that you can swim in the water and that is the best part.
Nicely said, Makaylah! What would you put on the windows for privacy? Where do you think the door leads to? Can you add some more details?
If I were able to stay in ethier one of those amazing hotels I would have to go with the under water hotel because I love to see all of the marine life. I also love to dive and I can’t see why they wouldn’t have diving. It would be so cool to be able to have that experience.
I would not like to stay in the igloo hotel because I am not interested in seeing the northern lights. I love the cold in all but it is not as interesting as the marine life you would see in the underwater hotel.
Nicely said, Danielle. What other details can you tell us about this experience?
It would be cool to see fish, sharks, and maybe even octopus.
I would definitely stay in an underwater hotel before an igloo. I have always wanted to be underwater and look at fish, sharks, and jellyfish in there own habitate. Also I have always enjoyed the water a lot more then the cold weather. It would be amazing to look out my window and see a dolphin or octopus! If I got to see a shark the trip would be even better.
A trip to an igloo sounds okay because I would love to see the northern lights, but I don’t like cold weather. Also staying in a small, cold igloo with brother sounds like a nightmare! The northern lights would bore him, being underwater would be exciting for everyone! The one thing that would frighten me, was knowing that if there was a crack I might be stuck under there. Other then that I would definetly stay in an underwater hotel first!
Awesome job. Mee too!
Good job, Alex! Stretch your imagination a bit…..what other things would you be able to do in an underwater hotel?
I would definitely stay in an underwater hotel before an igloo. I have always wanted to be underwater and look at fish, sharks, and jellyfish in there own habitate. Also I have always enjoyed the water a lot more then the cold weather. It would be amazing to look out my window and see a dolphin or octopus or just the beautiful coral reefs. Also it would be amazing to look through clear blue water, but the down side would be anyone boating or scuba diving could see me or anyone else in the hotel. I would look forward to eating all types of fish, only if I didn’t have to see them killed…You don’t have to go to far.
If I went to an underwater hotel I’d try to go scuba diving anwhere but near the hotel because I wouldn’t want anyone to see me mess up or me see them. The one thing that would frighten me, was knowing that if there was a crack I might be stuck under. Other then that I would definetly stay in an underwater hotel first!
Sorry with my brother
Anywhere
And underwater
Much better effort……see the difference? Great job!
I agree, under water hotel.
Sorry fish, sharks, and jellyfish.
Good editing!
I would live in an underwater hotel because I love animals. The only thing that would make me uncomfortable is looking out my window watching the school fish going by but then looking at a big eye of a shark when it comes by, I would be very scared. My favorite part would be looking out into the clear water, and watching the dolphins jump in and out of the water and seeing the school of fish swimming up and down out of the seagrass.
The reason why I would not live in an igloo is because I don’t do well in cold weather watch how the animals behave and see the life underwater than watch lights in the sky. If I stayed in an underwater hotel I would take lots of pictures. I would also want to explore the underwater by either swimming with them or going in a submarine.
I mean I would rather watch how the animals behave than watch lights in the sky.
I agree with you Sydney, I don’t do well with cold weather.
Creative comment, Sydney! What kinds of things could you do so you wouldn’t be scared? Retractable blinds? Curtains on the glass?
I would definietly use curtains maybe that would make me feel better.
If I had to choose between an under water hotel and a igloo hotel I would definitely like to stay in an under water hotel. I’d stay in an under water hotel because I would get to see all the colorful fish and different sea life. I would not be scared of a shark swimming over me I think it would be pretty cool. Staying in an igloo I guess would be okay, but it would be to cold for me. Although seeing the northern lights would be beautiful, but I would still stay at an under water hotel.
I agree with you that would be way to cold for me!
Natalie, why else would you want to stay at an underwater hotel? Who else would be staying at this hotel?
Great job that was great!! I agree 95%
I’d also like the under water hotel because I like to swim a lot, and I would also see the clear water at all times it would beautiful. I think my brother would probably want to stay at an under water hotel too because he doesn’t exactly love the water, but he would rather be under water without holding his breath.
I would prefer the under water hotel because I love the sea. I love the sea because of all the colors and unique sea life. I also would prefer the under water hotel because I love to swim and it would be pretty awesome to see some of the animals you are scared of because they cant get you in there. . I would not want to go see the Northern Lights in an igloo is because I am not a big fan of cold weather. And you most likely wont see very many animals. But it would be cool to see snow.
I did not mean to put the extra period.
I definitely agree because I also love swimming and the amazing creatures in the sea.
What do you think of your accommodations? Can you spot the missing apostrophes?
I would rather stay in the under water hotel because, who wouldn’t! It would be amazing seeing all the different color fish and to see all the jellyfish, dolphins, etc. The only thing that I would be afraid of is, if the glass breaks then, what would happen? Also I would rather not see any sharks. I hate sharks. I don’t know why but they scare me. Another concern would be, I hope I wouldn’t feel claustrophobic being under the big sea. Plus the hotel rooms look amazing and very nice. Also this would be a once in a lifetime adventure! I would go to the under the sea hotel any time!
The reason I wouldn’t like going into the igloo hotel is I like being cold but not FREEZING cold. Even though looking at the northern lights would be pretty cool, I would probably be more focused on the weather then the lights. That’s my opinion of course. And that’s why I would like to visit the under water hotel against the igloo hotel.
I agree I am not a fan of freezing cold weather. I would like to see the northern lights though!
ya I should really go on this website more often
That was great!!!:D I agree! Great job
THANKS!!! I love your writing post toooo! <3
Nicely done, Cassandra! I love hearing your voice behind your words!
Thank you! <3
I mean school of fish
Sydney, next time hit the reply link right under your name. Good eye!
If I had got to spend a week under water or in an igloo I would pick the igloo, because I would like to stay on the ground and not under it. I wouldn’t like to spend a weak underwater, because I wouldn’t be so comfortable with fish swimming and looking at me. I also would be afraid if the glass cracked and water rushing threw when I was sleeping. I would love to be underwater and see the fish swimming. I admit it would be peaceful, but I would feel uncomfortable at night. I wouldn’t want to see a shark when I would wake up.
I would like to spend a week in an igloo, because it would be so cool to see the lights in the sky. I also would love the fact that I’m in an igloo. It would be so cool, because I’ve never been in an igloo before. For me I would feel more comfortable in the igloo, because I wouldn’t have to worry about sharks eating me or me drowning. Another reason why I chose the igloo was, because I love playing in the snow with my sisters throwing snowballs and making snow angles.
I totally agree with everything you said! Great Work!
Good job, Ashlee, and I love your sense of humor!
If I had to choose between an igloo or an underwater hotel, I would choose an underwater hotel. I would choose an underwater hotel because I would like being able to see sea life right above my head. If there was such a thing as one I bet they would have an area where you can swim with dolphins. The fun part about staying in an underwater hotel is I could swim as much as I want. Which sounds really fun because I love swimming.
I wouldn’t like to stay in an igloo because I don’t like cold weather at all. I wouldn’t want to stay in a place where I felt uncomfortable. I like rooms where I can change the tempature to my own liking. I am used to the hot blazing weather, not the exact opposite. The only part that sounds good to me about staying in an igloo is being able to see the northern lights which I haven’t seen yet. Seeing the northern lights sounds really cool I can’t wait until I get to see them.
I loved how you put in swimming with dolphins! That would be alot of fun!
Great job!! I don’t enjoy the cold ethier so I total agree!!!:D
What strikes you about the hotel room? Any more details to add?
I agree Delaney I would want to see the northern lights. But the cold weather is not my thing.
If I got to choose between staying at an underwater hotel or an igloo for a week, I would pick the underwater hotel. Waking up and falling asleep to the sea life around you would be breathtaking. I really like animals so getting up-close views of the marine life would be thrilling. I would also love to be able to swim with the different species. I am an ice-skater, so I already spend six days a week on the ice! If I were staying in the igloo I would probably get freaked out by the Eskimos. I would also hate to see the wildlife being shot. I do want to know what there would be to eat underwater. Would there be electricity at the underwater hotel? I think both of these trips would be once-in-a-lifetime experiences, but personally I would prefer the underwater hotel!
That was an amazing post, every well done!!!
I definetly agree and I think that I would also get a little tired of all the snow and cold if I was in it every single hour and day too.
I liked how you said that you were used to the cold because of ice skating. It flowed beautifully!
Interesting observations about electricity and water….I was wondering about that! Good comment, Kathryn!
If I had the choice to stay at an underwater hotel or an igloo hotel looking at the northern lights, I would choose the underwater hotel in a heartbeat. At first I may get claustrophobic, but that queasy feeling would fall right out of me very easily, because I am a nature girl and love sea life. Being able to see what happens underwater early in the morning and late at night would be an amazing sight that most people have never seen. Underwater I would have a chance to see unique animals that I couldn’t normally see in an aquarium. At night the thought of sharks swimming around would not scare me, but instead it would intrigue me. I think that in a way sharks own the ocean. In the morning the gentle sea grass swaying back and forth in the crystal clear water would be such a peaceful and soothing way to wake up.
Even though staying in an igloo hotel and seeing the northern lights would be a fascinating sight, the animals and surroundings do not interest me as much as the ocean does. I imagine that the igloo would be small and rather cold inside. It would probably have no heater because the heat would melt the ice. I would over all much rather stay in an underwater hotel.
Emma, your writing is so beautiful and descriptive. I loved it!
Nice Job! Great Details and descriptions. Perfect!
Wonderful, Emma! I like how you say “sharks own the ocean.” They probably do!
I would choose to stay in the under water hotel. I love the water and the animal that live in it. I think it looks very pretty and colorful with all the coral and plants that live there. At night it would be cool if you kept the lights on and would see all the animal swimming in just the light. At night it would also be scary it would be vey dark and you would here noses that could scare you because you don’t know what it is coming from.
I did not choose the northern light because it is only at night and I would have nothing to do but wait till night. With the under water you could lie on the bed and watch all the sea life.
Great job, Elizabeth!
Nicely done, Elizabeth, and I like the picture I get about the animals at night in the light. Do you think you would be able to sleep in that room with no shades at night? Any more details to add about the experience?
I would choose to spend the week in an underwater hotel because I think having fish and sea creatures swim above and around you would be really amazing! I like sea life because I like scuba diving and the fish are very colorful and bright. In addition to that in the underwater hotel you don’t even have to leave your room to enjoy the underwater. Unlike the igloo hotel you have to walk out to see the Northern Lights.
I don’t think an igloo hotel applies to me because I don’t really enjoy cold weather because I live in warm weather and it would be a huge change for me. The animals that live in the North are not my type because they aren’t really unique because they all seem similar. Even though the northern lights are probably an exciting sight to see I don’t think I would enjoy it very much because the underwater hotel seems like a once and a life time type of opportunity.
Clever thoughts, Taylor! Especially how you said you’d have to leave the igloo to see the northern lights as opposed to the underwater hotel.
Thank you!
If I had to choose between the underwater and igloo hotel, I would most likely choose the under water hotel. I would choose that particular hotel because I absolutely LOVE the water and the creatures in it. I love the reflections the water makes on the floor because I personally think they’re beautiful ,unique and calming. I also like the fact that you could see any type of marine animal swimming around you when you get up in the morning.
Even though I picked the underwater hotel, I think the igloo would also be really cool. I think it would be really cool because you could watch the Northern Lights when you go to bed which I think is calming and cool. I also would like taking a break from the hot weather and go play in the cold. The thing is, the reason I would stay in the igloo, is also the reason I wouldn’t stay in the igloo. When the snow gets too cold, then what? I also don’t think polar bears and other animals that are strong enough to get inside the igloo would be very happy to see me.
I meant underwater in the first sentance. I also meant the comma to go like beautiful, unique. Sorry!
Emma, I never thought about the water’s reflection! What I nice thing to add!
Good for you, Emma! I agree with Olivia about the water’s reflection!
Thank you!:)
This is a tough question, but I would have to go with the igloo hotel. I love snow and cold weather, and unfortunately we don’t get any snow in St. Petersburg. I would also love to see the amazing northern lights! The northern lights are supposed to be really pretty, and look like something you have never seen before. When you walk inside the hotel there is a fireplace and a warm welcoming bed. There is some hot chocolate on a table next to a big plush lounge chair. Waking up in an igloo, eating the falling snow, and watching the northern lights are all wishes of mine!
I would prefer not to stay in an underwater hotel because, I am afraid of sharks, big fish, and almost every living sea creature. I also am on the swim team, and I swim in water every day. I am getting a little tired of water. I will stay in an underwater hotel, but I would much rather stay in an igloo.
BRILLIANT!
Very well done Taylor!!!
Your comment makes me smile, Taylor! I love the hot chocolate next to the chair, and your feelings about enough water! :
You had some ideas I didn’t think about when it came to the igloo and hotel…especially the food part what if it was frozen fish or dried polar bear
Great Job!
I rather live in a hotel in the ocean because I never saw things in the ocean. And besides,I love seeing new things in the ocean its fun.
I want to see dolphin ,clown fish ,sea horses, star fish and sharks .
I definetly agree! I would also love to see a dolphin in my window.:D
I also love the water, so I agree with you that it would be cool to stay underwater.:D
Priscillia, good job! I love how you name some interesting fish like the clown fish and sea horses. They always fascinate me! What else about the hotel would want to make you stay there? The room? Would you get tired of being underwater for a whole week? Any more details?
Although both hotels are enchanting,I would love to stay in an underwater hotel. I would love seeing fish and how they live their daily lives.I have to agree with Emma S. about how great it would be to see fish in the morning and night. So many rare sea animals come out at those times. It would be a great place to study and learn about the sea creatures. I love to spend time around sea creatures. When I was at Discovery Cove I basically spent the whole time in their reef. Just the thought of being that far underwater blows me away! But really, how could you even get down there safely? Would the sea life not want to come up to the glass, and stare at me all day? I am positive that I would see fish in the morning and night, but not all day long. What would I do when the fish are not that active? I would hope that the hotel has other attractions besides the fish. Such as diving. They should also have an easy quick way to get on to land, so I could go there. I know this sounds wild, but what if they had some sort of elevator connected to the hotel? Overall I would still love to stay at this hotel.
I would not like to stay at the igloo because I can’t stand cold weather. I am a florida girl at heart, so the underwater hotel appeals to me. Also, what would you even do at an igloo hotel? The northern lights would be great until you get used to them. Even if there was some fun activities I would miss out anyway. I’ve had bad luck in places with high attitudes, like where the igloo is located. I usually get sick and end up sitting around at our hotel. This hotel is great for people who love cold weather, but not for me. I love the sea and it’s creatures so the underwater hotel is right for me.
Olivia! Your writing was so beautiful and creative. I love how you said that you were a Florida girl at heart. You are an amazing writer Olivia.
Olivia,
You an outstanding writer! Your words are extraordinary! Very nice work!
If you said that nobody had ever told you you were an amazing writer, I would NEVER believe you. I definetly agree about staying underwater, and I also think it would be cool if there were activities and an elevator to stay connected to land. I just LOVE how your writing flows. You’re an amazing writer, keep it up!
Great response, Olivia, and I love the personal connections you make to other things. You let your imagination loose….and I like that!
I would like to stay in an underwater hotel more than an igloo hotel because when I looked at the picture, I saw the inside of the underwater hotel and it was so awesome. I would like to stat in an underwater hotel because marine life interests me. I have always loved the ocean and its creatures. I love snorkeling, diving, swimming, and more. I would also like to stay in an igloo hotel, just not as much as I would like to stay in an underwater hotel. I would like to look at the northern lights so much. Although I would rather stay in an underwater hotel.
Very nice writing Elizabeth! I would love to see the northern lights too! You were very descriptive, and definitely had a reason for everything. Bravo!
Very nice writing Elizabeth! I would love to see the northern lights too! You were definitely thought about everything you said in your writing! Bravo!
Good comment, Elizabeth! I think the picture is pretty cool, too……but I wonder about all that glass? Any more reasons to add why the underwater hotel is for you?
If I had a choice of either staying at a underwater hotel, or a igloo to stay in for a week, I would pick the underwater hotel! I think it would be so cool to see the amazing sea life like dolphins, fish, turtles, sharks, and all the other unique things that live down under the sea. You could go snorkeling, swimming, fishing, tubing, and scuba diving. The things that would make me nervous are that the water could get in to your hotel room, the glass could break and all your belongings would be destroyed. Another thing that would make me nervous, at night sharks could come, and I would freak out.
The reasons I wouldn’t want to stay in a igloo is that it would be freezing, and you really would do is play in the snow, and see the northern lights. I always had a interest to see the northern lights but, It would be a once in a lifetime thing to go and sleep in a underwater hotel. It would be cool though to see a polar bear or a penguin! But in the underwater hotel, I would be freaked out if scuba divers came and saw the underwater hotel, and looked through my windows in my room. I love marine life!!! That’s why I went with the underwater hotel!
Creative response, Marielle! Lots of details and the words flow….I think both places have their merits!
Olivia, I love your writing. You write with such big words. I love it! You are one of the best writers I’ve ever seen!
It would be so amazing if a got to spend a week in either an underwater hotel or an igloo. It would be a hard decision, but I would probably choose an underwater hotel. I love the ocean and sea creatures. It would be so much fun to look up in my bed and see dolphins or sharks. Also it would be fun to get out and swim with the fish. I love swimming and exploring, so that would be perfect for me. I bet the hotel would serve fresh fish, and fish is my favorite food. I wonder if people swimming by can see me while I’m in my hotel room? I imagine that the hotel would have pictures of fish on the walls, everything would be blue, and that it has a waterbed. That would be a dream for me.
There are many reasons why I would rather go to an underwater hotel than an igloo. The first reason is because I’m from Florida, and I like warm weather. Second, the northern lights wouldn’t last all day, but the fish would. I would probably get bored of that because there is nothing else besides the northern lights. Either way it would be a great vacation.
Sophie, Great job! I love how you said that it would be amazing to have a week both places! I agree!
I’m smiling, Sophie! Especially about your thoughts about them serving fresh fish, pictures of fish on the walls, and having a waterbed!
Although I would love to see the Northern Lights, I would like to live in an underwater hotel. I think it would be very interesting to go to bed and see sharks, dolphins, fish, etc. above you! The sea animals and plants would be so beautiful! I would definitely take my camera with me on that trip!
In an igloo, I wouldn’t be able to fall asleep as easily in the cold weather. I’d have to argue with being in an igloo because Northern Lights would be amazing to see two or three times, but after awhile, it would get kind of boring. It’s like watching fireworks. Sealife never gets to boring for me though!
Lily, I would love to see the northern lights as well! I totally agree with you!
Nicely said, Lily! You are braver than me if you don’t mind sharks swimming above your head! What else about the underwater hotel intrigues you? More details?
Currently, I am in a five-star, underwater hotel for scientists located off the coast of Figi. This is the first hotel of its kind. I had the opportunity to chose to stay here to do my oceanography research or stay in an igloo hotel to look at the northern lights. Because I am studying Pilot whales, the underwater hotel was the obvious choice. Pilot whale pods abound here. I am lucky to have so many to observe. In addition to studying the Pilot whales, I have conducted experiments on underwater hydroponics and phosphorescence. When I have free time, I enjoy diving, snorkeling and journeying to the Figian Whale Sanctuary, which was established in 2003. A bonus is visiting some of the shipwrecks that litter the ocean floor near the hotel and enjoying the incredible amenities that a five-star hotel, even an underwater one, has to offer. You should taste the pancakes that arrive by mini-sub each morning! Yes, the seafood is VERY fresh. I am having an amazing time and getting paid to do it, another bonus!
There are some obvious reasons to pick a tropical underwater hotel over an igloo hotel. First, while there are plenty of pilot whales, they tend to dive under the ice! It makes it very difficult to observe the whales in the dark and cold depths. Second, the rooms in the igloo hotel are freezing cold, and make me feel like I am in a fish-bowl. I want to study marine life, but not feel like marine life! I know the drinks will be cold, but good luck keeping the pancakes warm. The beauty of the northern lights pale in comparison to the glowing phosphorescence in the Pacific.
Here are three corrections.
Pilot whales should all be like this – Pilot whales. I forgot to capitalize Pilot in the last paragraph.
I don’t think I need a comma in the sentence, “Second, the rooms in the igloo hotel are freezing cold and make me feel like I am in a fish-bowl.”
Maybe the sentence about keeping pancakes warm needs an ! to end it?
Love the creative response, Will, and you having fun with your imagination. Yes, a comma after ” Second, the rooms” because you are listing points you are making, otherwise, the sentence would be confusing as it could be read “Second the rooms…….”
Definitely an ! after pancakes as it’s said with feeling.
Good checking!
Alexandra, I love how you use such big words, and I love how you say everything. It’s not like everybody else’s, it’s different and unique. I just love this amazing piece of writing!!! Great job alexandra!!
If I had a choice to stay in a underwater hotel or an igloo I would pick an igloo. Although I would love to stay in an underwater hotel I would be scared of the window cracking or someone looking in on me. If I had the chance to go to an igloo I would love to see the Northern Lights, make a snowball fight, and I would also enjoy a chance to see wildlife. Living in Florida we don’t get snow and if I got a chance to go to the pacific region to see the Northen lights I would take it immediately. Now if I lived in the north It would be a different story I would then choose to go to an underwater hotel. Only because I would see snow and the Northen Lights often.
If I ever got to go I would look forward to playing in the snow and laying outside. The only problem I would think that would happen is that snow would fall on top of the windows so you can’t see out, but I wouldn’t that ruin my trip. I would love to have a chance like this and see what it is like sleeping in an igloo and being in the middle of nowhere having a blast of fun!
Also I would love the cold so that would make it even better. I would also prefer an igloo better because I would find it to get a little boring looking at the same view of coral in a underwater hotel even though I would love that I like cold weather. Im not so sure they have air conditioning down in a underwater hotel. Then again in a igloo im not so sure they have a heater as well, maybe a fireplace though. Although i would love to see a shark ive seen some but not a large 8 foot one!
Very nicely done, Bella, and thanks for adding more details. Lots of interesting thoughts! Watch those apostrophes and lower case ” i.”
I also would enjoy scuba diving at the hontel while staying there.
I would choose nether of them because living in an underwater hotel would be like I was on an abandoned ship and it sank and there would be no way to get out. Also what if someone breaks the glass then what are we supposed to do swim to the top with sharks around you! I would be afraid at night because if I wake up in the middle of the night and there is a shark at my window I would scream!
The reason I would not like to stay in an igloo is because it would be so small and I would feel like I am in a jail cell. Also I would notlike to wake up in the morning to get a newspaper or something I wouldn’t want a polar bear at my door! Lastly, if I want to go out to dinner or something and a snow storm hit I would have to dig snow away so I could get out because igloos are round on the top and it would look like a fort!
I like the way you state your opinions and I hear your voice behind your words, Jacqueline! Can you think of someplace “different” you would want to stay at?
If I was given a choice on if I could spend a week in an igloo hotel or an underwater hotel, I wouldn’t answer right away. After giving it a lot of thought I would pick the under water one. I’ve been swimming since I was two, so I’m very comfortable underwater. If I woke up and saw a shark outside, I would think that was the coolest thing, but I know someone who would FREAK OUT! I would love that hotel and just jump outside and go swimming. I would pretend I was Marlin from Nemo and find a jellyfish, a turtle, and a Dori! I once had a fish named Dori! By the way, is there cable underwater?
Nemo! Good response, Greta! I wonder where you would swim there…..in a special place roped off? Cable? Hmmmm Can you add any more details about your stay?
If I had to choose between a underwater hotel, and a igloo I would stay in an underwater hotel! I would enjoy looking at the sea life and watching all the fish swim by. I also think it would be really colorful and cool to see all the different types of coral. Although I might be scared to have sharks swimming around your bedroom at night.
The reasons I would’nt stay in the igloo is because it would be super cold, and there would’nt be much to do except for staying in your igloo snuggled up to blankets. Besides I have already seen the northern lights many times and I do not think it would appeal to me. That is why I chose the underwater hotel.
Lucky you, Felina, to have seen the northern lights! What else about this underwater vacation appeals to you?
I like the underwater hotel because even if you got a little claustrophobic you could still go swimmingand be up close to all cool stuff that you saw from your bedroom. I would also like to watch the fish and how they react to a giant floating hotel passing right by their home.
swimming and be up up close to all the cool stuff you saw in your bedroom.
I would love to live in the underwater hotel because I love animals and I also really like to swim. The reason that I didn’t like the iglo is because it will be really cold and I won’t like the cold weather. But with the water if one part of the water is cold you can always move to other parts and those parts might be warmer.
