Students, please watch the above video created by a sixth grade class. (No borrowing of ideas)
Legend has it that Ernest Hemingway was challenged to write a short story using only six words. The result? For Sale: Baby shoes; never worn.
Your challenge is to write your six word memoir. Give it some thought.
I have two: Every year is a new adventure.
I still get sick on boats.
In addition: Please write a short paragraph about some highlights from your classes this year. What were some funny things that happened? Did you love learning about anything in particular?
This is my last year teaching seventh grade English. What will I remember? There’s so much….. but 60′s Day, The Hunger Games, and the sharing of books stand out…….but mostly…… I will miss all of you!
Have a wonderful summer……safe travels and happy times!

Better to try than miss out
This year was overall fun, I had a great time in History, Math, English, and Wheel. I loved this year a lot because of my wheel class. We were the best, I always had fun in that class. Another thing I really enjoyed was learning about Indians in History, especially because my class always seemed to make it fun. Math has always been my favorite class and this year I couldn’t ask for it to of been better. I also enjoyed P.E, that is always one of my favorite classes and even though we had Health I enjoyed being with my class and making the experience fun. I also tried out for basketball this year, and even though I wasn’t that good, I thought I should give it a shot.
A good motto to live by, Hans.
Life changed when I became brave
Seventh Grade year was a lot of fun. We learned many things at Seacamp and at school. Sixties day was very fun.I got to learn a lot about the sixties, and I found it very interisting.I also tried out for the soccer team, and this time I made it. Soccer was very fun, because I got to play a sport that I liked with most of my friends, and I even got an award.Track was also very fun. We only had five meets, but I got my friends to do track with me and it made it a lot more fun to do track with my friends.I have many other memories of my Seventh Grade year, but by far these are my favorite memories.
Raphael, I love your memoir!
Accomplish what is possible. That’s everything.
My seventh grade year was amazing. It was my first year at my new school and I think my favorite parts were making new friends and going to Seacamp. From the first day, many students were nice to me and I could already tell who would be my close friends. Now that the year is over I will miss seeing my friends until eighth grade. I hope that I will see my friends often over the summer so that we can stay in touch and keep the memories going. My favorite memory with my friends this year was when we did the Hunger Games simulation. Everyone was making secret alliances to stay alive and help each other take out their target. I almost made it to the end until I was betrayed by my own partner. Even though I didn’t win, I thought the game was a great idea and will always cherish the fun time I had. My other favorite memory was when we went to Seacamp. Most of my friends were in my cabin so that made breaks even more fun. Some of my friends who weren’t in my cabin were right across from my cabin so I could always go over to their cabin whenever I got bored. I also got to take pictures of many animals that were outside of my cabin at night. Even though our trip is over I still have many pictures to remind me of the great time that we had while at Seacamp. Now that I’m leaving seventh grade, I will really miss my friends and I am looking forward to having a great time in the summer and next year.
You did get really far in The Hunger Games simulation!
We’re all unique; cherish the differences.
It seems like only yesterday when seventh grade just started, and now it’s almost over. The year went by so fast! This year was definitely not easy, with all of the tests, quizzes, midterms, finals, and exams. I am so happy to have great friends who support me, and family and parents who push me to study a little harder to achieve that A. I always enjoyed the funny moments in English class where we would just laugh at the silliest things. I loved hanging with my classmates, the caring teachers who were always ready to answer any question at any time, good friends to laugh with, and so much more. A few funny things that I will remember are the teachers versus eighth graders basketball game, and the times my friends and I spent at lunch together. In Mr. Collins’ science class I really enjoyed learning about the cell and the Diversity of Life with all of the different animals. Also, I really liked the Jamestown simulation in Social Studies, the Hunger Games simulation in English, and 60′s day. This year had its ups and downs, and was definitely a good year. I can’t wait for eighth grade, and the memories I have from seventh grade will stay with me forever. I will cherish them for a lifetime.
I just realized you all did a lot of different simulations!
My seventh grade year was Great.
My seventh grade year really was great. I learned a lot of new things and tried new things like track. Another thing that made my year in favorable is friends because they help you out when no else does. Sea camp was an awesome highlight of my year because I had never been kayaking, or snorkeling before. If i had the choice to do it all again the same way I would because it was unlike any thing I had experience before.
A lot of firsts at Sea Camp!
Always live life to the fullest.
In seventh grade, I learned to always take the good things and capitalize upon them. Don’t let something simple bring you down, just be happy. One of my favorite parts of seventh grade was going to Seacamp. It was a lot of fun to explore and learn about the marine life. I also liked reading The Hunger Games. It is now one of my favorite books. Seventh grade was a really great year.
A good mantra to live by!
Don’t stop trying till’ you succeed
This 7th grade year was very fun. I enjoyed going on all of the bus rides that Mr.H had. On the trip to Sea Camp I had a great time. I liked learning about the marine life and about mangroves. The games that we played there were also fun. The teachers made classes fun, even if they aren’t supposed to be. It was a great year with all the laughs and friends. I’ve been at Shorecrest for 10 years now, and this year has been one of my favorites. The opportunity to play on a JV team was great. Thank you for an amazing year in the 7th grade.
Classes aren’t supposed to be fun?
Keep going forward until the end.
The whole year was definitely a great time. Though it was very hard at time, the only thing to do was to try the hardest. I will definitely remember this year in many ways. One great thing was Sixties Day; it was fun to learn the dances, school life, and art of the sixties. I played golf in the fall and had a great time with that, and in the spring I was on the track team and had a blast. Seventh grade will definitely be a great memory.
Glad you had a fun year!
I’m the director of my life
7th grade was a lot of fun! I loved it! There were a lot of funny moments. I also had a really fun volleyball season. Seventh grade was just really fun all around. I had a great time at sea camp and sixties day was a ton of fun! I thought the whole Hunger Games thing was really fun, how everybody read the book and then got really excited for the movie. We had really good classes with really good teachers this year. Seventh grade has been my best year at Shorecrest so far. It was so much fun! I love seventh grade, and although I’m sad to move on, I’m really excited for eight grade.
Creative memoir, Holly!
We are nothing without our friends
This year was one of the greatest years that I’ve ever had at a school, and I’ve had some pretty spectacular years. This was my second year at Shorecrest, so this was the year that I really started to take some risks and try things that I’d not wanted to do last year. Some of my fondest memories of Seventh Grade have to be with my head down in French class. We played Les Loups Garous as much as we could, and le classe aime le jour beacoup! Some of the other great experiences I had were in Science, wether it was building a crazy creature, learning about cells, or dissecting frogs (to a lesser extent). I also really liked English class, for although I had read the Hunger Games, The Giver, and The Outsiders already, our intriguing class discussions opened my eyes to others’ perspectives. I also liked playing on the school baseball team, and some of the greater moments of the year were experienced on those fields. Finally, I made a ton of new friends that I had never said two words to before, which was also a great experience. Overall, my Seventh Grade year is not one that I will soon forget.
Memoir = so true!
We only live once; try everything
Seventh grade was a great year. It gave me a lot of great memories and new friends. Although it was challenging, I had a blast. Some of my best memories of the year were playing on the football and soccer team with my friends. It was a lot of fun hanging out with my friends while doing things that I love to do. Another thing that was great was our trip to the Keys. Although I had been to the Keys before, it was a whole different experience while learning and being with my friends. Also, if I wasn’t in Mr. Agier’s advisory, It wouldn’t have been as fun. We were always making new jokes and laughing and it was a great time. Seventh grade was a lot of fun and I won’t forget these memories any time soon.
Also, I won the Hunger Games simulation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)
Yes, you did!
Live life until life is lived.
Seventh grade was exciting and fun. I consider the seventh grade the in-between grade because your close to high school but you’re still used to all the easy sixth grade stuff. There were a lot of great moments like on 60′s day with all the activities and outfits and Seacamp when we went snorkeling and kayaked. I really liked when we went to the Brasserie for French class it was fun and the food was good. This year was the best out of all the other schools I’ve been to. It was a great year and I’m excited for next year.
Nicely said, Sam
Friends are the brothers we choose.
Seventh grade was a very fun year of middle school. It wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be, so I was pleasantly surprised. I felt more under control of my life this year because it’s the second year I juggled three sports teams at one time. It was easier this year because I knew when I could do my homework in order to get it finished on time. I liked my classes a lot because we did things that were fun and unique. Dissecting various organisms was a blast, and the games we played in P.E. we’re a great break in between work. I enjoyed winning some review games in math and reading some classic books in English. I hated losing out early in the Hunger Games simulation. Chase had my card from the beginning. One “No comment” too many, and Chase guessed me in the first week. Drama and history were classes that I really had fun messing around in and laughing with all my friends. I especially will miss the teachers of seventh grade and the classmates that are leaving after this year.
Those “no comments” got a lot of people out!
For every obstacle there’s a solution.
I have had a very good seventh grade year overall. My favorite part about seventh grade was definitely Sea Camp. Sea camp was very fun and it also gave me an experience to try some new things that I had never tried before. At sea camp it was a very fun time because I got a chance to learn and have fun and do things like snorkel or play mangrove tag. I also liked dissecting a worm and frog in science. This was a very fun time because I want to grow up to be a surgeon and this was a great opportunity for me to practice my skill. I also liked all of the review games that we have played in math this year to prepare us for the upcoming tests that we were to have. I also loved playing games like capture the flag in P.E. because it was a nice break after science class. Overall my seventh grade year as very good and I am rally looking forward to eighth grade.
Good post, Josh!
Endings come quicker than you expect
My seventh grade year was stressful, fun, and successful. Everything I did this year was worth all my hard work. The best thing we did this year in English was read the Hunger Games. It is now officially my favorite book. I had so many great memories in that class. I loved how it was an all girls class. I am going to miss everything about English class next year. I also think I have learned a lot in science this year. Mr. Collins taught me so much about cells, diversity, evolution, chemistry, genetics, and heredity. We learned so much this year in his class. I also had a good year with Mrs. I’s in math class. I learned a lot about variables this year. I actually feel somewhat like a scientist. I am very pleased with the grades I have been getting this year. Overall, I loved seventh grade. It went by way too fast for me. This year was all about friendships. I had so much fun this year with all my classmates. We had so many funny moments together! I can not pick the funniest moment. I know I don’t have much longer with a few friends. A lot of them are moving away or going to a different school. So, we have to have fun with each other and enjoy each other while we can because before I know it, I will be in high school and many of my friends will be going to different high schools. Endings come quicker than you expect, so enjoy every moment you have while you have it.
